Hey Chanhassen! This week we're spotlighting a farm market just over the city line that's been feeding this community for generations — and the fourth-generation family behind it has a story worth knowing. The St. Hubert Committee has a deadline, a dollar amount, and a door that just opened. Plus: free services from your fire department you've probably never used, a discount on your irrigation system with a bonus window closing May 25, and a trivia question about one of the most traveled roads in town. Here's what's chanhappenin'.

Kerber Boulevard is one of Chanhassen's most traveled roads — At one point, if you drove the four miles from the Village of Chanhassen to Excelsior, how many Kerber family farms would you have passed along the way?

Old St. Hubert Church — A Deadline, and a Door That Just Opened

On May 12, fourteen community leaders gathered to talk about the future of Old St. Hubert's. By all accounts, it went well — the support for restoration was real, and the path forward got a little clearer.

Now there's a concrete next step. Fr. Talbot has given the SOS Committee until June 8th to raise $29,000. That money funds a full feasibility study — hiring a professional fundraiser to determine whether this community can support a $2.5 million restoration effort. The study would take approximately two months. Without it, the conversation ends.

A few numbers worth knowing: among Chanhassen community members (not just parish), 75% of survey respondents support restoration. The committee itself includes a former Chanhassen mayor, a former city administrator, a former Minnesota state legislator, founding family descendants, and the Chanhassen Historical Society. This isn't a long shot — it's a real plan, built by people who intend to see it through.

If you've been following this story and wondering if it's going anywhere — it is.

Marshall's Farm Market — Four Generations, One Corner

Marshall's Farm Market sits just outside Chanhassen city limits on Eden Prairie Road — but don't let that stop you. This one's worth the drive. Long before Marshall's Farm Market had a sign on Eden Prairie Road, the Marshall family was already farming. Carrie Marshall's great-grandparents farmed. Her grandparents farmed. Her parents farmed. And now Carrie and her husband Greg are doing it too — fourth-generation farmers carrying forward something most families lost somewhere along the way.

"In many ways we farm the way my great grandfather farmed," Carrie says. And she means it. Modern technology helps with efficiency, but the principles haven't changed: careful soil management, responsible water use, crops rotated the old way, pests managed with hand hoeing instead of chemicals. Bee-friendly. Biodiversity-minded. Rooted.

The market's history stretches back even further than the Marshalls. Carrie's father George bought his Eden Prairie farm in 1953 and went to work supplying a roadside stand at County Roads 1 and 4, operated by Harry and Evelyn Rogers. Harry was a truck farmer in the truest sense — selling vegetables from a wheelbarrow in front of the stand — and became a mentor and close friend to George. When Harry passed the stand on to the Marshalls in the late 1980s, it wasn't just a business changing hands. It was a community institution finding its next keeper.

Today the stand carries everything the Rogers stand once promised, and then some. Produce picked daily. Eggs from pasture-raised chickens. Meats that are 100% humanely raised and butchered — a line Carrie added in 2004, she says, because she wanted customers' families to eat the way her own family always had. "When I was a kid, everything on the dinner table was right off the farm: meat, vegetables, fruits, eggs."

But for Carrie and Greg, the market was never really just about food. "Feeding this community is so much more than producing food," they've said. "It's about creating a place for people to come together and support each other, to make friends and meet neighbors. It's about taking care of each other."

That's a hard thing to put on a sign. But if you've ever stopped by for a bundle of fresh sweet corn, a grilling pack, or one of their legendary fall harvest celebrations, you already know it's true.

Riviera Supper Club 1960s - Now Moe’s Char House

1953 — Chanhassen American Legion Post 580 built a clubroom and hall on St. Hubert Street — now West 78th Street. The building later became The Riviera Club, and today it's home to Moe's Char House.

Six. The Kerber family was so deeply rooted along that stretch of road that at one time, six different Kerber family farms lined the route between Chanhassen and Excelsior — and the boulevard that bears their name has been a Chanhassen landmark ever since.
